Fibre internet has two parts:

1. Fibre Network — (Openserve, Vumatel, Frogfoot, MetroFibre or Octotel) — there is usually only one fibre network in your area. The network installs and owns the fibre optic cables in the ground.

2. Fibre ISP — (Afrihost, WebAfrica, Vox, RSAWeb) — the ISP sells you a fibre package on top of the network.

Even if you and your friend are both with the same ISP, you may pay different prices if you're on different fibre networks.

Installation depends on the fibre network but typically takes 3–10 working days. Costs vary from R1,000–R2,500 depending on your house setup. Most ISPs offer free installation if you commit to a 12-month contract. Some networks also offer express installation for an additional fee.
